[evening coffee to get some work done]
["inside out" quinoa burger @ True Food Kitchen]
[herb hummus appetizer & iced green tea always hits the spot]
Last night I had a cup of coffee at 8 p.m. Some of you are most likely gasping in horror right now. To be quite honest, caffeine doesn’t really affect me. I had a cup of tea, my dog curled up on my lap and suddenly I was an hour deep into an episode of Giuliana & Bill and fading quickly. That’s when I turned to the coffee to actually get things done. I did this all throughout college (the first time) and some nights I still do it. I have been known to drink a cup of coffee in the afternoon and immediately take a nap after. It just doesn’t affect me that much. Is that a talent? I hope so!
Why am I telling you this? I don’t know, I thought you might enjoy a little fun fact about me on this lovely What I Ate Wednesday segment. So what else have I been up to this week (besides drinking coffee at odd hours of the day)?
I had the pleasure of taking some time to relax due to fall break and even hit up one of my favorite restaurants True Food Kitchen. I was really impressed with their new fall menu. I get something different every time I’m there since their menu changes so frequently. This time around I had the “inside out” quinoa burger with a kale salad on the side which was to die for. One thing that thankfully never changes about their menu is the phenomenal herb hummus appetizer.
This week I also was pleasantly surprised by the addition of new equipment at Pure Barre this week. It made for a much more challenging workout than I was used to and incorporated a lot of arm work.
I was up and at ‘em early on Monday for various assignments I had to do for some of my classes. This left me extremely fatigued by Monday night and I was strongly craving some green juice. I have noticed that it really helps with my energy and sugar cravings, the only downside is it’s a serious pain to make it all the time. Sometimes when I know I’m going to be in a time crunch that week, I go to Whole Foods to stock up on the bottled juices they have there instead. As tired as I was, I drove there Monday night only to find that they were out of every single flavor I like. I legitimately almost broke down in tears in the middle of Whole Foods. It only took me a couple seconds to pull it together and realize life will go on, but I settled for a different variety that was still good (but not my favorite).
I’ve also been eating a lot of greek yogurt again. My hair has been shedding like crazy lately and the nutrition student in me thinks it’s because I need more protein. (Hair loss associated with protein energy malnutrition, anyone else know about this? Anyone? Bueller?)
So in an effort to eat more I’ve been adding yogurt as a snack everyday. This is not a strange occurrence for most people, but I have a serious love/hate relationship with yogurt. I absolutely love it and it really keeps me full, but it wreaks havoc on my skin. I think I should write a post about this in the future when I get around to it. My skin has been really clear lately, but sure enough as soon as I started eating yogurt everyday this week I wake up with a new zit every morning. Fail.
[new equipment + new moves have left me rather sore lately]
